BYTEFALL'97 Review A few words... BYTEFALL'97 Demo Competition was held in Moscow on August, 16-17 at the Kuntsevo Art museum building near metro Kuntsevkaya. It was a second demo competition ever in Moscow, the first one was BF96, that Bytefall Group has organized a year earlier. There were about 300 visitors came to watch demo groups' production and to listen to their music. The house itself was pretty small for this amount of people. But anyway, most part of the visitors said they like the show ;). Actually, there were a lot of delays during the party, especially before the announcement of the results. And we guess it's all right for the first time ;) (The bf96 wasn't a public party, more likely it was a private one). Nevertheless, the party was well-equipped with the powerful soundsystem (about 4KW), a projection screen (2 * 1.5 meters) and several 17" monitors. Another room (there were two rooms) contained 10 computers wired to the local network. The first big showroom was very crowded and we guess for the future BF democompo we will need much bigger room. The second room was used for realtime competitions and network games and was ok for this kind of purposes. The party was held for two days, starting from the saturday morning with the registration and finishing with the results announcement and giving the prizes on sunday evening. The party program The party program was slightly different to the traditional party programs. The realtime competitions were the new part of the program and they were very interesting as we found out. The following event list is the party program that might be different to an actual one, because this is party just as it's supposed to be conducted. time period event extra events S a t u r d a y , a u g u s t 16 [10:00] 2h Registration and opening words [12:00] 30m 128b Intro Compo [12:30] 10m Review, voting [12:40] 30m 512b Intro Compo [13:10] 10m Review, voting [13:30] 1h Music compo 4Channel [14:30] 30m Review, voting [15:00] 1h Lunch break [16:00] 15m Graphics Compo HandDrawn [16:15] 30m Review, voting [16:45] 1h Music compo multichannel Real-time GFX [17:45] 30m Review, voting [18:15] 15m Graphics Compo rendered [18:30] 30m Review, voting [19:00] 30m Show of the Best PC demos & music [19:30] 1h Animation Compo (S/VHS) Real-time crackers [20:30] 30m Review, voting [21:00] 30m First day results announcement [22:00] 8h Discoteque S u n d a y , a u g u s t 17 [10:00] 1h MIDI Music Compo [11:00] 30m Review, voting [11:30] 1h 64Kb Intro Compo Real-time coders [12:30] 30m Review, voting [13:00] 30m 4Kb Intro Compo [13:30] 30m Review, voting [14:00] 1h Lunch break [15:00] 1h 4Mb Demo Compo Real-time music [16:00] 30m Review, voting [17:00] 45m Real-time ascii/ansi [18:00] 1.30m Arithmetics (votes counting) [19:30] 1h Last words and prizes Info pack There was russian version of the info file that you can obtain here.
