Setting up Echomail nets with your Renegade BBS
This webpage is meant to help newbie sysops setting up echomail in their renegade BBS. A good thing to do before actually setting up your system for a message net would be to find a net to join first :). Here is a list of echomail nets. This document assumes that you have an idea of exactly what echomail is; if you do not, then ask someone to explain it to you.

This document is aimed at helping people setup Renegade for echomail in conjunction with GEcho 1.00 and Fido2Int 2.0. If you need help setting up Front Door or some other software, then this is the wrong documentation for you.

files you will need:

ge_100.zip GEcho 1.00 mail processor (shareware)
rmd-317.zip Renemail - imports *.MSG files into Renegade's message areas
f2i200.exe Fido2Int - receives and sends echomail packets via internet email

Section 1: setting up GEcho

Download and install gecho to c:\gecho or d:\gecho. Once you have gecho unarchived, run GSETUP.EXE. GSetup will first ask you if you want to create a new configuration file, select yes. It will then ask you to type in a password, type in "I AGREE" (with the space in the middle). You should now be at the main GSetup menu.

Go to the System Data menu and then to Network Addresses. Change your main address (as shown in picture to the left) to your node number assigned to you. If you have not yet been assigned a node number by a echomail net, then you can just fill this in as 50:50/50 or something like that for now.
Now go back to the System Data menu and then go to Pathnames. Fill in the paths as shown in the picture to the left. The paths that are left blank in the picture you should also leave blank, as they are not needed. I am assuming you are using D:\GECHO as your gecho path, if you are using something different then change the paths accordingly (just use common sense).
Now go back to the System Data menu and then go to Filenames. Fill in the filenames as shown in the picture to the left. The only filename you really need to fill in is the GEcho log filename. I recommend you leave the others blank.
Now go back to the System Data menu and then go to Compression programs. Select ZIP and then hit F10 to make it the default compression program. You shouldn't have to change any other settings here.
Now go back to the System Data menu and then go to Area group names. Fill in Group names for each echomail net you are joining (probably just 1).
[there is no image here] Now go back to the System Data menu and go to Origin lines. Fill in an origin line for 1. Use something like "your bbs name - your city - your number." Do not include your node number, GEcho will automatically append your node number to the end of the origin line.
Now go back to the System Data menu and then back to the Main menu. Select Node manager. You will now add an entry for your hub's information. You do not need to have an entry for yourself. If you are joining 2 nets, then you will need 2 entries, one for each of your hubs.
Hit INSERT and fill in all of the information as shown. Most likely, you will not need a password unless your hub has assigned you one to use. Now hit ESC and hit Y to save changes. You should be back at the main menu now.
Now go to Area manager. You now have to add an entry for EACH echomail base you are joining. hit INSERT to add the first echomail base. A sample is shown in the picture to the left. The Area name must be filled in as the EXACT echomail name. Make sure that the Area type is Echomail and that the Format is *.MSG. I am using D:\ECHOMAIL for all of my echomail bases, so each base has its own subdirectory from D:\ECHOMAIL. You shouldn't have to mess with any of the Options. the Origin AKA and Seen-By should both be your node number.
Go to Export list, then hit INSERT and type in your hub's node number. this tells GEcho who to send/receive packets for this base to. Follow this procedure for each and every echomail base.

Now exit GSetup, and you are finished setting up Gecho.

Section 2: setting up Renegade

You should already know how to use and configure Renegade. Setting up echomail in Renegade is alot easier than setting up GEcho, so you don't have too much to worry about.
From the Renegade WFC, hit S for sys config, then H for network config. Change your settings as shown in the picture to the left. You will probably want to also change the Colors for your own BBS. You do not need to set a UUCP address.
Now, still at the Network config, hit A for Network addresses. For Address #0, fill in your node number. If you have not been assigned a node number yet, you can just use 50:50/50.
Now you will need to add a message base for each echomail base you will carry. From the WFC of Renegade, go to [B]oard editor and then start adding message areas. Here is a sample entry for CCI-TEST (as we set up in GSetup). Make sure you use the same Message path as you set in GSetup for each base.
