I joined Nuance some weeks ago and now we are working again on a new design for the x-files. Raven will be the mighty graphician who will do the new design. So if you have any ideas or wishes for the new x-files, tell me and we will see what we can do for you... =) Than a new record for the x-files is there. We passed the 200 groups mark. In this issue you find 204 groups !!!! But there are also some groups in the x-files which are dead or from which I haven't heard anything since a long time. So I will again do a cleanup in the x-files in the beginning of the new year. I will remove every group from which i haven't got any lifesign sind 1996. They all are marked with a (unchanged since 1996). So if you are in one of these groups and want that your group stays in the x-files, message me actual news and information about your group. If I don't get any lifesign of these groups, they will be out from the first issue on in 1998! Now something totally different. The Party 7 (TP7) is coming nearer and nearer. So if you are planning to organize a bustrip to the Party 7, message me the advertisement text and I will include it in the x-files. So the trip organizers have a better chance to advertise and get their trip full and everybody else has a good chance to find a possibility to come to TP7... I mean not only all the big bus trip; also if you want to rent a VW bus and have some places free, or if you want to drive with your own car and have place, message me and we will hope you all find what you need... =) That's all for now. Then there were warez groups. And even later there was SEPTIC! We were the first group in Slovenia that wanted to make some good music, graphics and even code demos and of course in the first place we wanted to HAVE FUN. Septic was founded in the summer of 1996 and we are getting better and better since then. Now some other groups have popped up too on the Slovenian demo scene (Impulse Connection, Interlaced Bytes, Wildcards, X-seed) Wait, did i just say Slovenian DEMO scene?... oops, No real demos were yet released by any of these groups. But we are going to change that! So... Lets make the a DEMO PARTY! Lets make Abort '97! And what is a demo party? A demo party is an event (party), when computer (art) enthusiasts come together, INTERACT, exchange IDEAS & knowledge, have a lot of FUN and COMPETE! Everyone and every group shows what he/she/it has done. Shows its demo, music and graphics and watch other people's artwork! You don't need to make any artwork that would compete with others, but it would be very nice of you if you did it! We hope Abort will become an annual event, but this will only be possible if you show up at the party & participate in the competitions! This is a NON-COMMERCIAL event, all the income after paying bills will be spent on prizes! COMPETITIONS There will be some standard competitions and some special ones (surprise!). Because there is almost no interest in Amiga, Commodore & other compos, we will only held PC compos. If you have done your artwork on any other platform, you'll have to bring all necessary hardware with you if you want to show it to other people. If there will be enough interest in any other competition that is not described below, we will make additional compos! Every member and every group can participate with as many entries as they want, but please keep the quality on a decent level! Entries must not be shown on any other party/competition before. Anything recieved after deadline, won't be competing, but it will be shown. There will be a deadline countdown! If there won't be enough entryes for the competition, they will be showed /played, but they won't compete! If there will be too many entryes in competition, organisers will make a pre-selection to lower the number of entries to reasonable amout. We will do it the best way we can but nobody is perfect. You'll have the opportunity to test your entry TWO TIMES on compo computer. If there will be too much interest in this, we don't know if it will be actualy possible. But don't come just before deadline! The organisers have right to remove any entry from the competition, if they think it is not suitable. DreamHack '97 will be held in Arena Kupolen in Borlaenge, Sweden. 14000 squaremeters should be enough room for everyone: 2000 computer-places, an exhibition area, a video hall and some sleeping halls. WHERE & WHEN =============== 2.1 Date & Time --------------- THE PARTY WILL START AT 08.00 (am) on Thursday October 30th and end at 16.00 on Sunday November 2nd and is of course open 24h a day. More information will be located in the Schedule section. 2.2 Arena Kupolen ----------------- DREAMHACK ' 97 WILL BE HELD IN Arena Kupolen in Borlaenge, Sweden. Arena Kupolen is the largest indoor-arena of Sweden and the largest spherical building in Europe. The total area is about 14000 squaremeters and we think that should be enough to please everyone. The ceiling height in the exhibition area is 24 meters and the diameter is 124 meters. There are 1800 parkinglots outside the building. See the Traveling section for information on how to get to Borlaenge. 3. FACTS ======== 3.1 Party Features ------------------ THERE'LL BE A HUGE local network in the hall with a fast Internet connection, powered by Telia. Our tech crew will give you as well as the hardware 24h support. Speaking 'bout huge, there'll be a great video-screen for the compos. The screen is 5x6 meters and the projektor gives 2000 ansilumen. Of course we'll give you a powerful sound system that'll let you feel the music! This system uses 8 LAB power ampfliers for a total of 13200W and is sponsored by Fas Ljud & Ljusproduktion AB. 3.2 Food -------- INSIDE THE HALL, there be 24h food service at at least six different locations. You'll be able to buy cheap fast food whenever you get hungry! Besides that, there's a McDonald's restaurant in the same building. They're sponsoring us and give all DreamHack visitors 5 SEK discount on all meals. We're also sponsored by Jolt Cola and they'll of course give us a special party prize! 3.3 Sleeping Halls ------------------ FOR THOSE OF YOU who wants to sleep, we've reserved space in the conference part of the hall. 700 squaremeters will be used for sleeping only. Remember to bring your own sleeping-bag. 3.4 Toilets and Showers ----------------------- THERE ARE PLENTY OF TOILETS in the building and also some showers. To give all attenders a fair chance to use the showers, there'll be a schedule system based upon the color of the badge you'll recieve at the entrance. Our 24h cleaning service will keep the showers as well as the toilets fresh, all the day 'round. 3.5 The Exhibition Area ----------------------- THERE WILL BE AN exhibition area in the hall, where you can buy hardware, software, magazines and such stuff - of course at low party prizes. Bjoern Lynne (Dr.Awesome/Crusaders) will be there, selling CD's by himself as well as by Chris Huelsbeck and Allister Brimble. 6 titles by Bjoern Lynne, 7 titels by Chris Huelsbeck and 2 titles by Allister Brimble. The prize is 150 SEK for each CD. Bjoern Fogelberg will sell his CD "64" on the party. Synchron Data will be there selling their CDs. Programmer's Heaven, Black Philes, X-Philes etc. 3.6 Entertainment Machines -------------------------- THERE'LL PROBABLY BE some entertainment machines somewhere in the hall. We'll let you know as soon as they're confirmed. 3.7 Video Hall -------------- WE'VE RENTED A 150" video projektor to run movies 24h a day, in our special video hall. 3.8 Events ---------- THE SORT-OF-TECHNO BAND PUFF, known from the Lollipop Festival, will give a live performance right in the main hall! The visitor tickets will be sold by the entrance. 5.4 Tables ---------- THERE WON'T BE ANY table reservation at DreamHack. To get a nice place beside your friends, you'll have to come early. There will be 2000 computer-places in the hall. Every place will have power outlets and a network connector. 6. TRAVELING ============ 6.1 Time tables --------------- We'll soon give you all neccessary time tables for buses, trains and flights. For information on trains in Sweden, call +46(0)20-757575. GENERAL RULES ================ *Alcohol and other drugs are strictly prohibited in the party area. *Smoking are not allowed inside the hall. *Weapons, fireworks, spraycans and other stuff that may hurt and/or damage people, buildings, hardware etc are naturally not allowed in the party area. *Microwave owens are not allowed. We offer you a 24h cheap fast food service. See the Facts section for details. *All damages will reduce the total prize money, and will be reported to the Police. Swedish laws are valid inside as well as outside the building. *No one is allowed to sell anything in the party area without permission from the organizers. Competitions =============== 8.1 General Competition Rules ----------------------------- The organizers reserve the right to make any changes to any of the competition rules at any time, and to disqualify any entry if it is not suitable to attend the competitions for some reason. No sexual, racist, disturbing or lawbreaking material will be accepted. The organizers have the right to cancel any competition if the quantity and/or quality of the entries isn't up to standard. All competition entries must be delivered, on disk, before the deadline. All contribution disks must be labeled with: - competition name - entry name - author name/group Contribution disks will NOT be returned! At least one of the authors of every entry must be present at the party. None of the contributions may have been released before. Every author has to have all copyrights on everything handed in. Any filename must use only standard characters; A-Z, 0-9 and maximum length of the filename is 8+3 characters. All contributions will be released except the entries in the WiLD compo. All entries with graphical contents will be shown on a 5x6 meters videoscreen, with a projector with a capability of 2000 ansilumen. All entries will be recorded on a high quality videosystem before shown on the screen. 8.2 PC Demo ----------- Max 10Mb of disk space uncompressed. Max one demo per coder. The main room can welcome more that 1,000 people and offers a lot of facilities like WC, showers and public phones at the nearby. There'll be another room, silent and confortable, for sleeping (don't forget your sleeping bag!). A bar will be open 24 hours a day with sandwiches, pizzas, sodas, etc. at very low prices. An information-point will try to answer all your questions and problems during the party. You could also bring demos or others to be seen on the giant screen there.
