Codecraft #3 announcement v1.00, 2001-01-04 Acorn minimal coding competition !-----------!----------!---------!--- !-- !- - Hi Codecraftsmen! A new year, a new Codecraft competition! Welcome to round 3 of Codecraft. After CC#1 organized by ARM'sTech and CC#2 by Topix, now Icebird proudly presents Codecraft #3. Categories !-----!---!--!- - We will have 4 categories: - 1k demo/game - 2k tool - 4k demo/game - 4k executable music As you can see we have a new category in this Codecraft issue: 4k executable music! Entries to this category must be executables that produce some music, similar to C64 SID tunes. The idea is to "code" music rather than just compose it: a hard-coded music program can produce much more flexible sound than a tracker player that plays an MOD or XM. But of course you do not need to go this far. A tracker player style program can be cool, too. Anything that produces sound is allowed in this category, even BASIC programs. Rules !---!--!- - - 1k demo/game Executable program must be 1 file and not be greater than 1024 bytes. No external data or code may be used, except RISC OS ROM contents and screenmode definitions. The executable can be of any filetype. - 2k tool Executable program may be multiple files, but filesize sum must not be greater than 2048 bytes. The executable can be of any filetype. - 4k demo/game Executable program must be 1 file and not be greater than 4096 bytes. No external data or code may be used, except RISC OS ROM contents and screenmode definitions. The executable can be of any filetype but must contain ARM code. Sound is appreciated but not required. You may not use external sound players except RISC OS routines. - 4k executable music Sound playing code AND sound data must be contained in 1 file not greater than 4096 bytes. No external data or code may be used, except RISC OS ROM contents. Screen output is not allowed. The executable can be of any filetype and can run either singletasking or in the background. - applying to all categories You can write entries for any RISC OS/machine configuration but please remind, the lower your requirements are the more people can see and vote for your entry. ;) Thus, you may contribute Archimedes only/RPC only/SA only entries. You can contribute as many entries as you like. GUS is restricted to a maximum number of 64 entries and Fraggle/Moving Pixel has to contribute at least one entry in the 1k category. ;) Entries must not have been released before. Inclusion of sourcecode is greatly appreciated but not required. Deadline !---!--!- - We would like to present the entries at Yelling Jam Party #2, so deadline of the competition will be at this event. We have no exact date at this time, but it will probably be around end of March until May 2001. We try to fix this soon. Prices & Voting !------!---!--!- - There will be two winner nomination procedures. The regular voting can be done via internet during a period of 1 month after coding deadline. The winners of all categories will receive an amount of 2^n grammes (n>=8) of finest chocolate. There may also be some hard/software prices donated by our sponsors. Additionally we will have a special winner nomination for the categories 1k demo/game and 4k demo/game at Yelling Jam Party #2. Entries will be shown at the party and voting will be done by party attendants. We reserve the right to preselect 1k entries, if the number of entries is too large. Prices will be either money or hard/software.
