BZZZ!HOME
(bzzz/sprocket)
Okay, now that i've finally completed my homepage i invite
you to see the results.. i hope i've managed to make something
of my own instead of just repeating and copying someone
else's ideas.. And don't forget to find a typewriter there
to type something bad.. To prove that it's not a commercial
ad convincing you to visit my page (although it is :) i
will do 10 hirez logos for the first 10 visitors. What?
You're asking if i'm any good? ;) http://www.hrgforce.org/bzzz/

HALLUCIGENIA
RELEASES (etana)
[received
from acheron.org -ed]
It's a new year and a new pack for that little group that
just refuses to go away, Hallucigenia. In addition to our
usual brand of hirez and real-world art from our members
and a variety of guests, this month our ansi/ascii department
has finally come out of hibernation. Yes, we finally have
work from our lowrez department! Anyways, be sure to check
out hal0199.zip (2.2Meg),
soon to be fully viewable on our website.

DISCUSSIONBOARD
FIXED (mongi)
The discussionboard is back online. Everything is back to
normal except for a couple of things. You will not find
any new messages if you search the last day, you'll have
to search the last week for now (until one day have passed).
Four threads are beyond all hope since they do not exist
anymore. The board tried to write to these threads when
the account was still out of disc quota, and so they have
become zero byte files. Following threads are gone:
General Discussion:
- The iCE Dilemma: flaming iCE without grounds.
- What style do we want?: what direction are we taking in
the artscene?
- Ripper Caught: the famous Starks rips uncovered.
- Different styles from the same artist: I have no idea.
Didn't follow this thread.
You are free to restart these
threads if you're interested and/or have something to add
to the old thread.

HIREZ.ORG
ERROR ALMOST FIXED (mongi)
The hirez.org account had run out of disc quota, and therefor
the discussionboard went down at first. After an attempt
the update the index page, it went down too. I've been away
for two days and have just come home, site updates will
be done as soon as possible
The discussionboard is still
down. The entire structured was completely ruined, and I
have to set things back up. The old threads will probably
not be active anymore. I will be able to archive them, though.
As soon as I have time the discussions will be online again.

HALLUCIGENIA --
ADDENDUM (etana)
The January pack is out on the cdrom.com and artpacks.acid.org.
I hadn't planned on making the announcement until the pack
was fully viewable on our website--it isn't yet--but should
be by Sunday. Also, the reason the pack disappeared temporarily
was there were errors in the production of the first version--my
fault--and I got it removed so I could upload the corrected
one.
So
yes.. Hallucigenia releases! Better than
sliced bread and packed with more punch than a box of wheaties!

HALLUCIGENIA RELEASED
(mongi)
A very quiet release for Hallucigenia a couple of days ago,
surprising us all when we had to review two Hallucigenia
packs. (When I looked last time, it had disappeared from
ftp.artpacks.acid.org for some reason.)
REVIEW COMMENTS: CATBONES
SPEAKS (mongi)
Right after the posting of the reviews I received an e-mail
from Catbones (youknowwhichgroup). It was a kind and respectful
mail, which he wanted me to share with you:
---
subject: to mongi, and the hiREZ scene..
Hey Mongi,
I was just reading over
your review of ACiD-75..
I wanted to address the
comment you made at the end of your review..
[I really don't like his
attitude towards the scene. There is no need at all to flame
other artists for their opinions. Sure we are self-proclaimed
critics, don't we have the right to riticize? We just happen
to do it in a very organized way. And you just have to admit
the Poser pics are bad. I can understand why Catbones is
so upset (after the discussions on the board). Cat really
cares about the scene, and some of the so called "hobbyists"
have lower quality work than others. But after all, this
is the UNDERGROUND artscene, you can't expect everyone to
be 100 per cent dedicated and be professionals. Those who
are "real" artists mostly seek out other areas to display
their work. Cat and ACiD does not stand above everybody
else as they seem to think. You guys have become too damn
big headed. Just shut up and draw instead. My two cents.]
First, my apolagies if there
are scene artists who interpret my sometimes crass and direct
use of the language. I must say that it was never my intent
to "flame" anyone, and that since the very beginning of
my marriage to the scene, i've tried to be known as "Cat,
yeah he's a really aight dude, he doesn't put people down,
etc, he'll talk to people on irc and he's an ok fella",
but unfortunanely I guess it all comes down to communication
breakdown.
I have a GREAT amount of
respect for the upper half of the scene. If i could take
3 or 4 artists out of iCE and 4 or 5 out of hRG and a couple
more here and there and put them all on a "dream team",
i hope they'd let me play ball with them. =)
Sometimes I get real down
on the bottom half of the scene. I get short tempered with
peeps who act like they could just take it or leave it,
it's just for fun and when it's not fun, fuckit.. That's
not what art is like, and that's not what the scene should
be like. I wish everyone cared as much or more than i do,
of course! Then the scene would be jumping hurdles on a
daily basis, we'd be on The Discovery Channel and shit.
;)
Next, I hope that when I
speak my piece EACH TIME that people don't take MY opinions
and rants as those coming from ACiD. We're all indivduals,
and when i talk about the scen, whether i'm talking good
or bad, it's ME, not ACiD..
I've said some harsh things,
none of them meant to be really "hurtful", but sometimes
I guess I try to speak with a sharp tongue in order to get
people to sit up and listen. Again, I aploagize if my participation
in the message bases has caused anyone to think that I've
been directly abusive to them, or for that matter, if they
feel like i'm just out of my gord and over the edge, taking
things TOO serious.. sorry that i do, but i do.
I think if the same discussions
were made in person, with expressions and tones more true,
that what i have to say might sound less angry than how
it comes across in my wrtten word. =)
I LOVE THE SCENE! Long
live the scene, and forgive me when I seem mean and crass.
My congrats to ALL the groups
packs i've enjoyed these past couple of months, I've given
every group a fair look, and seen some terrific works in
all the packs! Let's make it phat in '99!
Best regards,
Cat
---
First of all I apologize for
implying Cat's own opinions were
ACiD's. That was a mistake. With this mail, Cat really shows
how much he loves the scene, and have explained some misunderstanding
that might have occurred during our heated discussions.
I really do have a lot of respect for Cat, but sometimes
he can be harsh. I'm really glad we've solved the conflicts
we had.

SITE UPDATES
(mongi)
There have been some communication problems with the reviewers
since I came home from Hong Kong, so you have to wait just
a couple of more days for the reviews. We only have a little
bit to finish off.
- While you're waiting, why
not read the interview
with Steven Ståhlberg! There is even an EXCLUSIVE
shot of Mr. Ståhlberg's latest work in progress.

SITE UPDATES
(mongi)
I am back from Hong Kong. It was a great trip, and I talked
a lot with Steven Ståhlberg. I'm still VERY tired
and suffering from jetlag. More updates will come later.
A lot of releases have not been announced on hirez.org,
but the latest packs are updated anyway on the list to the
left (ACiD, CiA, iCE, Moonrise). And there will be reviews
soon.
- Profile of Quisling
updated.

HRG #23:
UNSEEN (shere khan)
Get it. You need it, believe me :) We're still artists,
we still create qualitative, original and simply damn impressive
art. If you don't need that, then what the hell are you
doing here on this site, in the first place? :) Convinced?
then: ftp://ftp.cdrom.com/pub/artpacks/artpacks/1999/hrg-23.zip
What, is it still UNSEEN by
you? what are you waiting for, it's free! :)
